ALCHEMY OF REBIRTH

VENICE EDITION: FIG POUDRÉ

The exclusive scent chosen by YouFirst Pura Rinascita to honour the "Downsizing" film première is FIG POUDRÉ, a hearty embrace focused on fig as a dominant note, declined in an Eau Fraîche, perfect for Summer evenings.

Known from ancient times as the emblem of life itself, the union between Earth and Sky, fig tree is a tree with a short trunk that can reach 6-10 meter of height: the bark is finely wrinkled, the lymph is white and milky, the branches are rich in marrow. The leaves are large, dark green on top. What is commonly believed to be the fruit of fig is actually a big infructescence; the real fruits are many small branches, whose pulp is sweet and constitutes the edible part.

The cultivation of the fig tree has developed in different parts of the planet, but significantly in the Mediterranean, whose weather is warm and arid. The cultivated figs are innumerable, and so are the Italian varieties.

Sacred plant and fruit, the fig tree in ancient Greece was devoted to Athena, goddess of wisdom, and Dionysus, god of wine. Plato believed this tree was friend of philosophers. In ancient tradition the fig tree means immortality and abundance, so much that it was used for sicomanzia, a divination practice with the leaves of this tree.

As a symbol of abundance it is linked to fertility and presides at birth: according to a Hindu legend, the god Vishnu would be born under a fig, like the founders of Rome, Romulus and Remo. A sensual and rounded caress, perfect expression of a rebirth experience and capable of storing with his notes the memory of this magical evening.

TALES IN MILAN

TALES IN... VENICE! CA' REZZONICO

The exclusive dinner honoring the film "Downsizing" took place in the magical Ca’Rezzonico, one of Venice's most famous palaces, located in the Dorsoduro district between Palazzo Contarini Michiel and Palazzo Bernardo Nani and overlooking the Grand Canal, not far from Ca 'Foscari.

Designed by Baldassarre Longhena in 1649, the building was subsequently abandoned. Only the noble facade on the Grand Canal and the first floor with its woodbeams remained.
Things changed when a member of the Della Torre-Rezzonico family, originally from the Rezzonico village on Como Lake, acquired the building in 1751. Ca’Rezzonico was then sold many times until 1888, when it was bought for £ 250,000 by Robert Barrett Browning, son of British writers Robert Browning and Elizabeth Barrett Browning.

Since 1936 it is property of the City of Venice and it is also the venue of the Museum of Eighteenth-Century Venice. In addition to reconstructions of furniture and furnishings of the time, the collection houses important paintings by Canaletto, Francesco Guardi, Pietro Longhi, Tintoretto, Tiepolo and numerous Morlatier's terracotta sketches.

It was a real magic to walk through the central nave and climb the beautiful staircase. In a green bushy setting, recreating a true “Italian Garden”, Ca'Rezzonico welcomed the cast of the film and the guests, who lived a 100% Made in Italy dream.

STORIES OF REBIRTH

VENICE EDITION: DOWNSIZING

... What if rebirth means to shrink and become 12-cm-high?

The question at the basis of Downsizing, Alexander Payne's new film, which opened the 74th Venice Film Festival, is not really simple.

Set in a dystopian future, the film begins with the choice of the Safraneks (played by Matt Damon and Kirsten Wiig) to join the project of becoming small (i.e. downsizing), hoping for a better future ... but something unexpected will happen that will open a to a series of wide-ranging reflections: the more humane and "small" themes related to the story of the protagonists will intertwine with social, political and economic messages, linked to the challenges and concerns we all read daily (overpopulation, environmental disasters, sharp contrasts between rich and poor people).
Will there be a happy end? There is no certainty but several opportunities of introspection and analysis are offered to us with this work, accompanied by some light and funny moments thanks to Dusan's character, played by the magnificent Christoph Waltz, and the irrepressible Vietnamese activist Ngoc-Lan, played by actress Hong Chau.

Enjoy!

SELF MOMENTS

VENICE EDITION: Granai della Giudecca

At the end of the island called Giudecca, which is located south of the historic center of Venice and overlooking the homonymous Giudecca Canal, there are three large buildings, built on the ruins of the Dandolo Palace, known as the Granai della Repubblica.

Once used to store wheat, grain and cereals for periods of war and famine, today the ancient Republic’s Granaries, thanks to the three connecting naves (Longhi, Canaletto and Carpaccio), the 8-meter-high ceilings and paved floors have become a place of interest for unique occasions, such as the recent Italian retrospective dedicated to David Montgomery during the 74th Venice Film Festival.

The exhibition, organized by Vanity Fair and powered by Tendercapital, celebrated the legendary photographer of the Swinging London with a spectacular show of iconic figures, from Queen Mother to Jimi Hendrix, from Alfred Hitchcook to Twiggy, from Sofia Loren to Monica Vitti. Unique emotions, with an unforgettable view of Piazza San Marco: moments of true Rebirth.
