Festival of Silence
MICHELE DEL RE, IL SEGRETO DEL GIARDINO DEL SOGNO

Perfomance, signs and fun as a new form of communication? This is the stimulus, the “food for thought” offered by the Festival of Silence. Under the artistic direction of Rita Mazza, an Italian native artist now residing in Berlin, the Festival of Silence in its first edition offers- for the first time in Italy - performances and artistic forms that use sign language, with the aim of creating a true integration between hearing and not, through quality and international performances, another characterizing element as it calls off its own linguistic barriers in favor of the original “sign language”.
The Festival of Silence will be a party, a discovery, pure entertainment, in a climate of strong physical, intellectual, emotional stimulation. Workshops, exhibitions, projections and activites, free and upon reservation, will alternate between parties and also a dejeneur sur l'herbe is programmed for Sunday, all in the name of a sound to be rediscovered. In such a chaotic time, silence can turn out to be revolutionary and, in any case, certainly, a real Rebirth experience!

BAGNI MISTERIOSI
MICHELE DEL RE, IL SEGRETO DEL GIARDINO DEL SOGNO

If you still haven’t visited the “Mysterious Baths” yet, then you must go! The space, retraining of the former swimming centre Caimi, renamed “Bagni misteriosi”, closes on January 28th!

This space became an enchanting “winter story”, being situated behind Porta Romana, one of the six principal Roman doors in Milan, also defined “the Imperial Door” because it constituted the principal access to Milan, where departed the road that brought to the Ancient Rome, and still characterized by the 1596 monumental arc wanted by Phillip III of Spain.

Under the Artistic Direction of Andrée Ruth Shammah, the place is refined in every detail, from the harmony of colors to the choice of the materials, murales and sound design included, and it came to life on December 7 with the transformation of the swimming pool in an open Patinoire, with a magic atmosphere, also recreated through laboratories, art and theater shows that contribute to strengthen the enchantment. A project not easy to be realized but it turned into a beautiful gift to the whole city, thanks to private and public contributions. Up to the end of January laboratories of art and magic are still available, open to the public. Don't lose this experience of Rebirth!

Frida Kahlo. Beyond the myth
MICHELE DEL RE, IL SEGRETO DEL GIARDINO DEL SOGNO

On February 1st the exhibition “Frida Kahlo. Beyond the myth” officially opened at MUDEC, a project which results of six years of researches, curated by the passionate Diego Sileo. For the first time, thanks to Tender to Art, all the works of the Museum Dolores Olmedo and of the Jacques and Natasha Gelman Collection, the two most important and rich collections of Frida Kahlo in the world, will be in Italy, together with some international renowned museums which lent some masterpieces by the Mexican artist, never seen in our Country. A show focused on the artistic work more than on the “icon”, which unfolds in 4 sections: the Woman, the Earth, the Politics, the Pain.

The Woman section shows Frida Kahlo, the first woman artist who made her own body a manifesto, who exposed her own femininity in a direct, explicit, at times violent way and irreversibly revolutionized the female role in art history. The second section, Earth, reminds us that Frida Kahlo was always identified with her Land and in her work she gradually developed a new interest for the elements of the nature, establishing a series of relationships. The third section faces the political side, indissolubly tied up to Frida’s entire work. Social resistance and opposition, although never ideological.

The last section, in the end, is devoted to Pain. The art of Frida Kahlo is marked from a powerful and expressive pictorial quality and from violent images that inevitably flow in a true iconography of pain: its images are so powerful and able to instill uneasiness, anxiety, fear and horror. It is impossible to be indifferent.

Going "beyond the myth" is the real objective of this rich Milanese exhibition, that is going beyond the superficial vision of the relationship between the life and the work of the Mexican artist, showing that for a serious and deep analysis of her poetic it is necessary to push further the narrow limits of biography and to go over that consolidated myth, fed by last decades’s fashion. The Milanese date will underline how Frida Kahlo still hides many secrets and it will tell - through unpublished documents disclosed in 2007 in the secret archive of Casa Azul (the artist's home in Mexico City) and other important documents - new keys of reading its production. A brave, free, sincere, woman bearer of a so contemporary, revolutionary and powerful message. Have a Great Rebirth!

TALES IN... VENICE! CA' REZZONICO
MICHELE DEL RE, IL SEGRETO DEL GIARDINO DEL SOGNO

The exclusive dinner honoring the film "Downsizing" took place in the magical Ca’Rezzonico, one of Venice's most famous palaces, located in the Dorsoduro district between Palazzo Contarini Michiel and Palazzo Bernardo Nani and overlooking the Grand Canal, not far from Ca 'Foscari.

Designed by Baldassarre Longhena in 1649, the building was subsequently abandoned. Only the noble facade on the Grand Canal and the first floor with its woodbeams remained.
Things changed when a member of the Della Torre-Rezzonico family, originally from the Rezzonico village on Como Lake, acquired the building in 1751. Ca’Rezzonico was then sold many times until 1888, when it was bought for £ 250,000 by Robert Barrett Browning, son of British writers Robert Browning and Elizabeth Barrett Browning.

Since 1936 it is property of the City of Venice and it is also the venue of the Museum of Eighteenth-Century Venice. In addition to reconstructions of furniture and furnishings of the time, the collection houses important paintings by Canaletto, Francesco Guardi, Pietro Longhi, Tintoretto, Tiepolo and numerous Morlatier's terracotta sketches.

It was a real magic to walk through the central nave and climb the beautiful staircase. In a green bushy setting, recreating a true “Italian Garden”, Ca'Rezzonico welcomed the cast of the film and the guests, who lived a 100% Made in Italy dream.

The city which loves jazz
MICHELE DEL RE, IL SEGRETO DEL GIARDINO DEL SOGNO

What can we do if Milan, in addition to the other countless advantages, also has the passion for jazz!?

For many years, the world's best international musicians have been performing on the stage of the legendary Blue Note (jazz temple in Isola, the area with great artistic frenzy), while at times the Navigli clubs host emerging groups and affirmed voices at the same time. In addition, at the Botanical Garden of Città Studi, from now to the end of September, the Musical Summer Music Festival “Area Musica Estate” takes place, showing the best protagonists in contemporary jazz: from Paolo Fresu to Tony Allen and Sara Mckenzie.

The botanical garden of Via Golgi, the venue of the event, will open to these beautiful music evenings with news for the public: numerous meetings dedicated to well-being and good food organized along with important partners, such as the Seminario Permanente Luigi Veronelli and Associazioni Talenti Organizzati, but also the Milanese Theater Manufacturers, to show that live music, food and imagination are for everyone a true rebirth. Evviva Milan, which flies on jazz notes.

A film and an aperitif on the terrace every Wednesday at MIC
MICHELE DEL RE, IL SEGRETO DEL GIARDINO DEL SOGNO

Milan, among other virtues, has an extreme generosity. It is generous, abundant though refined, like the rite of the aperitif, a brilliant moment that all real Milanese citizens, whether childbirth or adopted, share with pride and pleasure.

So at the MIC, the Interactive Museum of Cinema, they started offering aperitifs before Wednesdays’ screenings: happy hours are set on the beautiful terrace of the historic Manifattura Tabacchi, home of Milan’s Museum and Civic School of Cinema and Television. On the bill we find Italian and international films, and also a selection of mute movies with live music accompaniment.

So, together with the historic Arianteo film festival, we have also this beautiful initiative in Viale Fulvio Testi, confirming Milan's vitality is not only a city centre’s prerogative but it can be found also in a culturally vibrant and evolving peripheral area. Beautiful Milan! Thank you!

Dialogue in the dark: you don’t have to see to look far away
MICHELE DEL RE, IL SEGRETO DEL GIARDINO DEL SOGNO

Since 2005 in Milan, there is a special and truly magical experience, a sensory path without a sense, that of vision, but by no means less exciting and interesting.

In the wonderful venue of The Blind Institute (Istituto dei Ciechi) in via Vivaio, anyone of us can take a-hour-long journey in total darkness, transforming simple everyday gestures into an extraordinary experience. Whether it's a coffee or a walk, the total absence of light in the environment changes our way of dealing with space and objects, forcing us to "see" with the touch, the hearing, the taste and the smell.

Small groups of visitors, guided by a blind person, explore different environments (including a bar) immersed in total darkness and comment on the situations in which they are. Here, the individual's ability to discover new dimensions, to experience the intensity of flavours and fragrances comes out, in the lack of light. In this way, one can understand that life, though confused and disconcerting, always reserves a chance of knowledge, and that the light of heart and mind reach what eyes cannot. Thanks, Milan.

Ferdinando Scianna's Black&White is back in Milan
MICHELE DEL RE, IL SEGRETO DEL GIARDINO DEL SOGNO

I've always thought that I take pictures because the world is there, not that the world is there so that I take photographs.
Ferdinando Scianna

After many years, this great Sicilian photographer who marked a turning point in photography comes back to Milan. Behind the camera lens since over fifty years, he was the first Italian to join the Magnum Photojournalism Agency. Scianna brings us into his world made of black and white memories, taking us through a journey of over 50 photographs dedicated to landscape.

A selection ranging from his beloved and always there Sicily to the heart of Europe, South America and Africa. An album of memories, a passionate romance with the landscape which has accompanied the artist since his early works, and will never abandon him. Whether it is an alleyway or a glimpse, his landscapes are soul encounters, moments of pure emotional intensity impressed on the film.

In addition to the photo exhibition, there is a room dedicated to the author's books: some of them have never been published and in this way complete Scianna’s "places"and make him the undisputed protagonist of the Italian photographic history.
Wish you a nice trip & rebirth!

#15 T-YONG CHUNG AT FONDERIA ARTISTICA BATTAGLIA
MICHELE DEL RE, IL SEGRETO DEL GIARDINO DEL SOGNO

Milan has a discreet charm that is difficult to grasp at first glance, as it is often hidden by the common belief that it is only a bustling, frenzy business city.
But its beauty can be seen even in the factories, as there are many manufacturing excellences.

Among others, Fonderia Artistica Battaglia, a foundry that produces bronze sculptures since 1913. An incredible wealth of expertise that dialogues with the artists and their creativity since the foundation, so that in recent years the project Open Studio has been created, through which the Foundry supports young Italian and foreign artists through the lost-wax bronze casting process. Artists are also given the opportunity to show their work in a personal exhibition held at the historical headquarter in via Stilicone 10.

The most recent project to be held at Fonderia Battaglia is that of T-Yong Chung, a Korean artist now based in Milan, who used bronze for the first time in his life.
Produced by Tender to Art, Tendercapital’s visual arts hub, the focus of the installation is a bronze sculpture of a young girls bust classically and figuratively molded, which the Korean artist has reinterpreted based on his usual technique to decontextualize a western iconographic symbol, through incisions and surface polishing.

For T-yong Chung Lavinia, Latinus and Amata’s daughter, Aeneas’s second wife, portrayed as a child, represents Mediterranean femininity, the purity and the complexity of a woman figure. Lavinia is an installation through which the shaping of a bronze bust using different materials and colors (plaster, clay, colored wax), are absorbed by the young face portrayed during the process itself. The result is an identifiable process of a cycle that repeats itself.

An exhibition that moves from tradition to innovation, from identity to evolution, a mix of contradictions that perfectly portrays Milan’s complexity.
