Milan, among other virtues, has an extreme generosity. It is generous, abundant though refined, like the rite of the aperitif, a brilliant moment that all real Milanese citizens, whether childbirth or adopted, share with pride and pleasure.
So at the MIC, the Interactive Museum of Cinema, they started offering aperitifs before Wednesdays’ screenings: happy hours are set on the beautiful terrace of the historic Manifattura Tabacchi, home of Milan’s Museum and Civic School of Cinema and Television. On the bill we find Italian and international films, and also a selection of mute movies with live music accompaniment.
So, together with the historic Arianteo film festival, we have also this beautiful initiative in Viale Fulvio Testi, confirming Milan's vitality is not only a city centre’s prerogative but it can be found also in a culturally vibrant and evolving peripheral area. Beautiful Milan! Thank you!

How many times do we read the ingredients of a cream or perfume without paying attention, without asking ourselves the meaning of what we are wearing? Let's take some time to get to know briefly some of the magical alchemies which give off nature’s gift that can be found in many of our favorite fragrances.
For example Neroli, or orange flower, has ancient Chinese origins and has been used for thousands of years in cosmetics and medicine. Steam distilled by flowers, it is highly appreciated in perfumery but unfortunately it is often replaced by synthetic molecules, because it is a very expensive ingredient. Suitable for all-type skin care, especially the most sensitive and dry ones, it also has a remarkable antidepressant effect and it is very useful in times of discomfort and sadness.
Tagetes is a bright orange clove coming from Mexico and it is still profusely used today in religious rituals, especially funerals, to give the sweetest welcome to the spirits of the afterlife who return to greet the living ones. Its intense fresh and citrus scent makes it the protagonist of cosmetic products, enriching them also with its antiseptic and insect-repelling properties.
Sandalwood, originating in India, is a largely used wood, both in perfumery and as a natural remedy, obtained from the Santalum album. In India it is mainly used to produce incense sticks, but it is widely used as essential oil for its anti-inflammatory, stress-relief, aphrodisiac properties. It gives to all fragrances that woody and warm base notes that persist on our skin for a long time.
Have a very nice and perfumed Rebirth!
It's harvesting time in Sardinia, a wild and amazing land region, homeland of the Helichrysum Italicum.
This small fragrant shrub is indeed a Sardinian native endemic plant from the Orgosolo area and it can be found also on the mountains of Oliena, Dorgali, Urzulei and Southern Gennargentu.
The blooming shrubs reach full ripening after the third week of June: the cut symbolically starts on the night of June 24, celebrating St. John, when in Oliena women wear their traditional clothes which have been embroidered by very skilled tailors, go to the wild helichrysum fields and begin harvesting by hand.
During the same night, the "fogaroni" of Saint John take place: it is an ancient rite in which people striked a deal of eternal friendship. Holding a rod or wooden stick to the ends, the “mate-to-be” jumped the fire singing songs or rhymes together, and at the end of the rite they shook their hands exchanging wishes. Becoming a companion through this promise meant, in the ancient peasant world, to be linked to reciprocity, or promise favors and availability through the exchange of gifts.
Also called "Immortelle", this flower is a precious friend of our skin, as its essential oil has renowned antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Often, entire families are involved in this extraordinary activity, which binds man and environment through ancient gestures that have remained unchanged over the centuries. Helichrysum is a protected species and grows wildly even next to beaches, so it is not unusual to come across the local population picking up the flowers.
An open-air gold mine, a great source of income thanks to the high demand of the cosmetic-pharmaceutical industry, a gift of nature for the eyes and the skin. Besides, flowers can also be used in the kitchen, for infusions or as powder to flavor various dishes. Thanks, Immortelle!
Moby Dick is one of those books that you’d read as a teenager and fascinates because of the adventure, storms, and chase over the seas.
The wrath of the white whale and that of Captain Achab involve us and leave us exhausted and with a sense of fatigue, as if we had participated in the struggle between the little man and the mighty animal.
Well, this magnificent book must be read over the years.
The captain's journey is that of every person in search of his own limit, the absolute, the fusion with the sublime. No mediocrity, only the strongest of passions drives us to face each situation, to get to touch what we want more than everything. The sense of overcoming the border belongs to us, in a not very wise way. It gets us obsessed, it molds us and it makes us do impossible undertakings. Almost.
Rebith is also merging with the unconditional, feeling free in the wild and immeasurable universe... because "impossible things one day, perhaps, may become possible".
